About Us

Illuminatum is a Living Information Center founded by the Section for Evidence-Based Medicine in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Technical University of Munich. Our international team of researchers strives to produce evidence-based information for mental health professionals and people with mental disorders. With Illuminatum, our goal is to co-create evidence-based guidelines with your input, going Beyond the Evidence by collecting personal insights, experiences, and tips from stakeholders all around the world.

Living Information Center

  • Research shows that it takes up to 15 years for research findings to be implemented in practice
  • The core of Illuminatum is a "living" guideline that continuously evolves as new evidence accumulates
  • We provide practical resources, links to helpful materials, and recent news

Your Input

  • At Illuminatum, we co-create guidelines with YOU
  • Make your voice heard by commenting on recommendations
  • Engage in meaningful discussions with others

Beyond the Evidence

  • Evidence alone can provide general direction, but no detailed answers
  • Share your clinical experience, practical wisdom, and tips for treating patients
  • Help us identify situations not covered by our guidelines

About the Name

The name "Illuminatum" is a thoughtful wordplay created for our center. It incorporates "illuminare" (to enlighten) reflecting our mission to enlighten users about evidence in treating mental disorders. "TUM" at the end represents the Technical University of Munich where we are based. Additionally, the Latin word "Lumen" (light) connects to the last name of our team leader, Stefan Leucht.

We have nothing to do with the Illuminati and do not believe that this group still exists. Illuminatum is solely an independent academic initiative dedicated to evidence-based medicine, sharing only the timeless goal of promoting knowledge and enlightenment in mental health care.
